Power System Studies Engineer – Jacobs
Base pay range:
$70,800.00/yr – $93,000.00/yr
Your impact:
The energy industry, particularly transmission grids, is undergoing major changes to accommodate regional and global decarbonization and energy transition targets. Underground and subsea cable technology are increasingly becoming major players in this shift, enabling large‑scale renewable energy generation such as offshore wind, green hydrogen, or large interconnectors.
Responsibilities:
Perform power system studies (internal to the plant) including load flow, short circuit, insulation coordination, TOV, arc flash, and harmonics.
Perform power system studies (external to the plant) related to interconnection to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements and NERC standards.
Support system studies projects throughout the whole lifecycle—from technical bid/proposal to execution, reporting, client meetings/presentations, and close‑out.
Contribute to the delivery of projects, ensuring on‑time and on‑budget execution.
Work closely with team members across North America and globally.
Collaborate with renewable developers, utilities, and ISOs/RTOs.
Participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and technical committees such as IEEE or CIGRE.
Position is flexible and can be remote anywhere in North America. Preference for candidates located in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, Boston, Orlando, or Dallas/Fort Worth, US.
Required qualifications:
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
Minimum 4 years of direct experience with system studies on utility‑scale renewable projects.
Experience with PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD or equivalent tools.
Knowledge of industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, and CIGRE.
Exceptional problem‑solving and analytical capabilities.
Team player with strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
Willingness and ability to travel within North America.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with system studies in California and/or WECC.
Experience with offshore wind and HVDC.
Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python) to streamline studies.
Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) license.
