Job Summary Under the direction of the Supervisor of the UCSF Cancer Center, the Team Lead supports team performance efforts and continuously improves protocols, workflows and infrastructure, and assists with launching new programming for the UCSF Cancer Center. The role routinely supports the supervisor and manager on special projects that contribute to the improvement of department operations, the patient experience, and staff and provider engagement. Excellent analytical skills, collaboration with administrative and physician stakeholders, and implementation of customer service standards are essential. The Team Lead provides support to 20 practice coordinators, offering daily coordination and training for cancer center services. The lead supports the department’s onboarding, training, coaching, and educational programs to enhance Practice Coordinator knowledge and development, adheres to and exemplifies the House and Telephone Standards of the Medical Center, works with service line steering committees, practice managers and supervisors to establish policies and procedures, and meets with supervisory staff regularly to review metrics, discuss protocol updates, address issues and suggest workflow improvements.

Department Description The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI‐Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and depth and breadth of research in basic, clinical and population science. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses and regional satellite locations. The program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center, encompassing roughly 230 non‑physician FTEs, 90+ cost centers, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. We are a premier cancer care and research institution, routinely voted a top 10 program by U.S. News and World Report.

Required Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of the clinical and operational implications of medical billing practices including coding, billing systems and documentation requirements, ambulatory care clinic practice management, patient care workflows and processes, medical terminology, and specialized clinical knowledge of the clinic practice area.

Proven ability to apply knowledge of medical center policies and procedures and related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments to assess and monitor clinic operations.

Excellent communication skills, including active listening and critical thinking, and ability to clearly and concisely communicate clinic content, rules and regulations.

Strong interpersonal skills; cooperates and supports the work of others, works productively with anyone regardless of background, and is empathetic and aware of the impact on others.

Productive in work volume, speed, quality and consistency; sees projects through to completion on deadline; exhibits excellent interpersonal judgment and discretion; works well as part of an administrative team with a customer‑service orientation toward co‑workers, faculty and researchers.

Proficient in all commonly applicable functions of the Microsoft Suite; skilled in data management; effectively uses relevant healthcare and clinic operations information technology, including billing systems and medical record documentation.

Thorough knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in ambulatory care clinics.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field.

Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.
