Job Summary Under supervision of the Administrative Nurse Manager and MA Supervisor, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Hospital Assistant III assists in the delivery of care to patients in multiple Cancer Center ambulatory group practices. This position supports the various cost centers within the Cancer Center, multiple campuses, and satellite offices. Work includes a variety of personal care and nursing procedures to ensure positive care outcomes. The assistant will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. They are required to learn and assist in all Cancer Center specialty practices, and to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards adopted by the Medical Center.

Department Information The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses and regional satellite locations. The clinical program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and is routinely ranked in the top 10 nationally.

Required Qualifications

Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Ability to communicate effectively, both directly and over the phone.

Able to meet physical requirements.

Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations.

Preferred Qualifications

One year’s experience as a Hospital Assistant in a medical practice.

Experience with insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, medical assisting, or patient financial services strongly preferred.

Degree from an accredited medical assisting school.

Bi‑lingual or multi‑lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, Russian) strongly preferred.

Current State of California Phlebotomy Certification (CPT1).

License / Certification

Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.

Salary and Benefits The salary range for this position is

$40.19 – $40.19
