Overview
Professional, supervisory, administrative and technical work directing and evaluating all activities of a major engineering division which includes overseeing a staff of professional engineering, technical and administrative employees. An employee in this class performs expert‑level professional engineering management work over a specialty engineering division that oversees the design, construction and operation of a public works system. Work includes establishing and monitoring management controls for assigned operational area and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations pertaining to department operations where applicable; and related work as required.
Requirements
Registration as a professional engineer in Louisiana.
Seven (7) years of engineering experience as a professional engineer. At least two (2) years of this experience must have included supervisory responsibilities. At least three (3) years of this experience must have been in the area of sewer, water and/or power infrastructure systems.
Registration as a professional engineer in Louisiana.
Permanent status with the City of New Orleans at a pay grade equal to or higher than 96 and four (4) years of exempt‑level professional engineering experience. At least two (2) years of this experience must have included supervisory responsibilities.
Note: Professional engineering experience must have been gained after registration as a Professional Engineer.
NOTE: Out‑of‑state registrations are acceptable. However, any applicant who is not registered as a professional engineer in Louisiana must, if hired, show proof of such registration during his or her probationary period. No person may receive permanent status until this requirement has been met, and no probationary period may extend longer than one year.
Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify professional engineer’s registration/license claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
This position requires a one‑year probationary period. A qualifying review of license and experience.
