Staff Product Manager, Card Experience

Affirm, Raleigh, North Carolina, United States, 27601

Save Job

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

The affirm card is at a massive inflection point. We have reached millions of cardholders inside our network, but we are just scratching the surface of a 150M+ external TAM. We are looking for a Staff Product Manager to own the critical "Pre‑Swipe" Experience – the defining moments between a user saying “yes” to the card and making their first purchase.

This is not just an optimization role; it's a 0→1 strategic ownership role. You will be responsible for the Activation Journey, New User Experience (NUX), and the Checkout experience. Your mandate is to make the onboarding process “butter smooth” in an industry known for friction, turning complex financial compliance into a magical, instant consumer experience.

What You’ll Do

Own the “Pre‑Swipe” Vision: Define the long‑term strategy for Card Activation and New User Experience, bridging the gap between digital provisioning and physical card unboxing.

Build 0→1 Growth Bets: Identify and launch net‑new features that drive activation, such as gamified onboarding, instant wallet provisioning (Apple/Google Pay), or novel “first‑use” incentives.

Obsess Over the Funnel: Manage the end‑to‑end checkout and activation funnel, ruthlessly eliminating friction to deliver industry‑leading drop‑off rates.

Lead Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Act as the conductor for stakeholders, partnering with Engineering to decouple growth from platform debt and with Design to ensure world‑class UX.

Navigate Complexity: Work closely with Risk, Legal, and Compliance to onboard users safely without sacrificing speed, turning regulatory requirements into seamless product experiences.

Drive Activation Economics: Own the metrics that matter – Time‑to‑First‑Transaction, 30‑Day Activation Rates, and Wallet Provisioning penetration.

What We Look For

7+ years of product management experience, with a clear track record in consumer mobile apps, fintech, or neobanks.

Deep experience optimizing high‑stakes conversion flows (e.g., checkouts, sign‑ups, KYC) and understanding user activation psychology.

A 0→1 builder mentality – launched new products or features from scratch that changed user behavior.

Technical and design fluency – able to discuss engineering constraints (API latency, etc.) and maintain a high bar for UI/UX design.

Strategic influence – led without authority, aligning senior stakeholders and guiding embedded engineering/design pods through ambiguity.

Data‑driven intuition – fluent in SQL/Amplitude and using data to identify bottlenecks while leveraging product intuition.

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
