Commercial Trials and Litigation Staff Attorney
Steptoe LLP ("Steptoe") is seeking an experienced litigator with a minimum of 5 years of experience for a Staff Attorney position in its Houston office. The Staff Attorney will primarily work on commercial litigation matters under the supervision of Partners in the Commercial Trials and Litigation Group.
Responsibilities:
Being an integral part of litigation teams
Legal research and writing
Drafting pleadings and motions
Document review
Written discovery and motion practice
Reviewing litigation correspondence and pleadings and reporting time‑sensitive issues to the Partner in charge
Managing litigation calendar and ensuring all deadlines are met
Assisting with settlement and mediations
Communicating with opposing counsel
Assisting with preparation of memos and updates to clients
Candidate Requirements:
Strong academic credentials and excellent writing and analytical skills
Painstaking attention to detail, ability to multitask, and comfort dealing with opposing counsel
A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Texas bar membership, active and in good standing
Submit cover letter, résumé, law school transcript, and writing sample
The position offers a regular, stable schedule with a hybrid work arrangement, some days in office and some remote. Trial work is not expected although court appearances may occasionally be required. This is not a partnership track position.
Compensation and Benefits:
Anticipated salary range is $160,000 to $170,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
