Associate Chief Nursing Executive (ACNE) – Children’s Hospital
The Associate Chief Nursing Executive (ACNE) for Patient Care Services (PCS) at UC Davis Health (UCDH) serves as a strategic, visionary nursing leader.
In this role the ACNE advances nursing practice and elevates patient care across all settings, collaborates closely with multidisciplinary partners, and drives quality and safety outcomes across the health system.
Key Responsibilities
Provide executive oversight for inpatient services, including the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Acute Care Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Obstetric Emergency Department, and Newborn Nursery.
Oversee essential programs such as Child Life Services, Obstetrics and Pediatric Outreach Programs, U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital initiatives, and the Children’s Surgery Verification Program.
Manage system‑wide responsibilities, including the American Hospital Association (AHA) survey and oversight of the Center for Professional Practice in Nursing (CPPN).
Ensure nursing care delivery consistently meets or exceeds all quality, regulatory, licensing, and accreditation standards.
Foster an environment grounded in continuous quality improvement, evidence‑based practice, accountability, and innovation.
Lead 5 Unit Patient Care Services Directors and 2 Managers, overseeing 608.84 FTEs; manage a revenue budget of \$795.56 million and an operational budget of \$168.89 million.
Minimum Qualifications
A valid California Registered Nurse license.
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from an accredited program.
Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or a health‑related field.
Seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in a complex academic care setting.
Five (5) years of leadership experience in a Pediatric and/or Maternal/Child inpatient unit within a complex academic setting.
Leadership experience in a highly complex California unionized environment.
Leadership experience in a Magnet‑recognized PCS healthcare setting.
Experience with quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
Demonstrated responsibility for regulatory and HR practices, including experience with regulatory surveys (TJC, CDPH, etc.).
Strong conceptual nursing base with expertise in professional practice models, systems thinking, and quality improvement processes.
Track record in nurse recruitment, retention, and development of new graduate nurses.
Ability to participate in budget development and financial oversight.
Commitment to the development of clinical leaders and to the ANCC Magnet Recognition program.
Strong executive presence, political savvy, and commitment to patient‑centered care.
Demonstrated ability to build internal and external relationships across academic partners, physicians, and system‑wide teams.
Experience engaging staff in reducing waste and enhancing value for patients.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in the field of practice (if appropriate).
Experience working with Hospital Development Departments and/or philanthropy programs.
