Responsibilities

Lead the development, execution, and review of relevant strategies and initiatives for the firm’s industry and practice groups.

Drive revenue generation initiatives including client targeting, market research, responses to RFPs, and client relationship reviews.

Partner with communications, brand, and recognition teams to develop and execute strategic visibility initiatives and build brand awareness.

Develop direction, infrastructure, KPIs, and metrics for strategic key clients.

Build, manage, and lead a highly effective team of marketing and business development professionals across the U.S.

Establish and maintain constructive relationships with firm-wide leaders and practice group heads.

Elevate matter collection and streamline business development knowledge management processes for client-facing material.

Drive cross‑functional projects to increase efficiency, collaboration, and visibility within the department and the firm.

Identify and pursue cross‑selling opportunities and assist in expanding existing client relationships to generate new business.

Create consistency in messaging and best practices through ongoing staff development and training.

Share best practices between industry and practice groups to maximize productivity of business development and marketing efforts.

Coach, develop, and mentor the team, setting performance standards and monitoring progress.

Identify and develop best practices across the department, establishing long‑range objectives and strategies to achieve them.

Position Requirements

4‑year degree in marketing, communications, or related field; Master’s degree preferred; industry certifications preferred.

15 years of progressive marketing and business development experience, with substantial leadership of company‑wide initiatives in a multi‑office professional services environment.

Strong business development abilities, including setting priorities, planning, organization, follow‑through, delegation, negotiation, budgeting, and ROI analysis.

Proven ability to motivate attorneys to engage in business development and to collaborate on implementation of business development plans.

High level of client service experience across all organizational levels.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to produce compelling proposals, collateral, research reports, and client‑facing presentations.

Forward‑thinking, solution‑oriented, and capable of delivering results in complex and ambiguous situations.

Mature, confident, and able to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients.

Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office.

Background in business development and marketing technology, tools, processes, and innovation.

Outstanding interpersonal and relationship‑building skills; able to build consensus and enthusiasm for initiatives.

Team‑first approach; proven track record of managing and mentoring a large, geographically diverse team.

Dynamic, “can‑do” attitude and client‑service mentality.

Ability to tolerate ambiguity to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands.

Strong leadership skills to guide, manage, and inspire the team.

Capability to develop and implement strategies that align with the firm’s business objectives.

Discretionary handling of confidential and sensitive information.

Ability to work independently and delegate resources effectively; manage large, geographically dispersed staff.

Experience managing change initiatives related to talent and people management.

Up‑to‑date knowledge of current legal market trends, news, and innovations.

Compensation and Benefits Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The anticipated salary range is $250,000 to $300,000, with final offers dependent on location. The range does not include discretionary bonuses, which are non‑guaranteed and depend on individual and firm performance. Full‑time employees receive benefits including medical and dental coverage, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance, pre‑tax flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent care expenses, an employee assistance program, paid time off, paid holidays, and participation in a retirement plan after meeting eligibility requirements.
