We seek a Director of Business Development who will drive revenue growth, enhance brand awareness, and manage the Business Development and Proposals Teams across the U.S. The role involves strategy development, client targeting, market research, and collaboration with senior leadership to strengthen client relationships and generate new revenue.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development, execution and review of strategies and related initiatives for the firm’s practice groups.

Drive related revenue generation initiatives including client targeting, market research, responses to RFPs, and client relationship reviews.

Partner with communications, brand, and award teams to develop and execute strategic visibility initiatives.

Lead team efforts related to strategic key clients, providing direction, infrastructure, KPIs and metrics for initiatives.

Build, manage and lead a highly effective team of marketing and business development professionals across the U.S.

Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with firm‑wide industry leaders and practice group leaders.

Work across teams to streamline business development knowledge management processes for use in client‑facing material.

Drive cross‑functional projects to increase efficiency, collaboration, communication and visibility across the department and firm.

Lead the implementation of key initiatives, identify cross‑selling opportunities, and expand client relationships.

Create consistency in messaging through staff development and training, sharing best practices among industry and practice groups.

Coach and develop team members, setting performance standards and monitoring performance.

Identify and develop best practices, establish long‑range objectives and specify strategies to achieve them.

Position Requirements

4‑year degree in marketing, communications or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred; industry certifications preferred.

15+ years of progressive marketing and business development experience; substantial experience leading company‑wide initiatives in a multi‑office setting, preferably a professional services firm.

Strong business development skills, including budgeting, ROI analysis, and negotiation.

Ability to motivate attorneys to engage in business development and develop implement plans.

Experience providing high‑level client service to individuals at all levels.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to produce compelling proposals, collateral and client‑facing materials.

Forward‑thinking with proven ability to deliver solutions to complex challenges.

High level of maturity and confidence to interact with sophisticated clients.

Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Strong background in business development and marketing technology to drive revenue and efficiency.

Outstanding interpersonal and relationship‑building skills to build consensus and support initiatives.

Team‑first approach with a track record of managing and mentoring a large, geographically diverse team.

Dynamic, results‑oriented, client‑service mentality.

Ability to tolerate ambiguity, respond quickly to shifting demands, and implement change initiatives.

Strong leadership skills to guide, manage and inspire the team.

Ability to develop strategies aligned with the firm’s overall business objectives.

Handle confidential information with appropriate discretion.

Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration skills with diverse stakeholders.

Facilitation skills to work with various departments.

Independent judgment and decision‑making in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Knowledge of current legal market trends, news and innovations.

Compensation and Benefits Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The anticipated salary range is $250,000 to $300,000, with the final offer dependent on location and other factors. This range does not include discretionary bonus opportunities, which are non‑guaranteed.
