Position Overview The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) works in tandem with the Store Manager to lead all day-to-day store operations and make final decisions in the manager’s absence. The ASM is responsible for store conditions, product quality, inventory, front-end and center-store operations, staff training, hiring, scheduling, and achieving store sales and profit goals. The ASM also manages the in-store training program and development of team members.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities

Excellent leadership and team building skills.

Manage all front-end store operations, oversee cash management, develop and implement staff shift schedules, and conduct time‑management training.

Oversee inventory with vendors and warehouses, resolve out-of-stocks, audit product quality, and ensure date integrity.

Coach and evaluate team members, provide feedback, and make advancement and disciplinary decisions.

Develop and deliver the in-store training program and provide ongoing development opportunities.

Lead recruiting and hiring, conduct interviews, and oversee new-hire training.

Collaborate with the Store Manager on sales, budgeting, and labor efficiencies.

Promote two-way communication with customers and team members, identify improvement areas, and implement corrective actions.

Support customer focus through the Customer Connection program and deliver a remarkable shopping experience.

Track and analyze sales and profitability data, recommend actions to control expenses and maximize profits.

Supervise store cleanliness, maintenance, and product recalls.

Serve as the store contact during inspections and ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, security, and legal requirements.

Hiring pay range: $77,091.00 – $101,182.00

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Excellent leadership/team building skills.

Strong written and verbal communication.

Excellent interpersonal, customer service, coaching/mentoring, and training skills.

Proven decision‑making, delegation, and negotiation abilities.

Strong organizational, administrative, and financial skills.

Fundamental understanding of labor contracts.

Knowledge of store operations, financials, hazardous material handling, food safety rules, employment law, union contractual agreements, interviewing techniques, and hiring practices.

Education: Four-year college degree (or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education, specialized training, or additional job experience).

Experience: Two years of related experience.

Physical Requirements: Basic office environment – ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, use stairs, reach, pull, and lift objects.
