A distinguished intellectual property practice is seeking a senior patent attorney in Chicago to lead complex hard‑science patent matters. This role offers high‑level prosecution work, strategic client advising, and national and international portfolio management. The firm represents clients nationally and internationally and is committed to diversity and community outreach.
Base Pay Range $150,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, draft, and prosecute patent applications across multiple hard‑science disciplines
Conduct patentability, validity, and freedom‑to‑operate analyses
Advise clients on IP strategy, portfolio development, and risk assessment
Review scientific disclosures and collaborate with inventors and technical experts
Manage U.S. and international patent portfolios
Respond to office actions and participate in examiner interviews
Support intellectual property due diligence in transactional matters
Monitor developments in patent law and relevant scientific fields
Qualifications
Approximately 20 years of experience practicing patent law with a focus on hard sciences
Extensive experience in patent drafting and prosecution
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Advanced degree in a hard‑science discipline preferred
Strong analytical, research, and writing skills
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
Proven ability to manage multiple sophisticated matters simultaneously
