Improvix Technologies, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated, professional, and responsible Senior Network Engineer to manage and maintain the network on behalf of our Federal customer. This candidate will be responsible for functional management of our network and the resolution of network issues. The position requires an active Top Secret clearance and a commitment to working five days a week onsite in Washington DC.
Candidates must have a Top Secret (TS) clearance for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide network system design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance for LAN, WAN, VoIP, security, wireless, and related infrastructure (servers, routers, switches, firewalls, PBX, IPS/IDS).
- Monitor and optimize network performance; produce performance reports and troubleshoot issues to maintain high availability.
- Utilize enterprise-level tools and products to provide network services, including firewalls, IPS/IDS, DNS, DHCP, web security, TACACS+, VPN and NAC.
- Work with IOS, NX-OS, EIGRP, BGP, GRE and OSPF.
- Perform day‑to‑day network maintenance, including installation, configuration, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Research and recommend new technologies, protocols, and standards to support business objectives.
- Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control plans for network maintenance.
- Review, analyze, document, and implement disaster recovery plans for the network.
- Research, design, and implement security solutions for network infrastructure.
- Administer and manage firewall security appliances.
- Supervise and mentor the Network Engineering Team, assigning tasks, setting deadlines, tracking progress, and ensuring quality delivery.
- Serve as primary point of escalation for complex technical issues, coordinating with internal teams, vendors, and government stakeholders.
- Collaborate with architecture, operations, and cross‑functional teams to develop deployment configurations, capacity plans, and security measures.
- Oversee equipment/software upgrades, network asset management, documentation, and compliance with policies and best practices.
- Manage engineering tasks and workflows within Jira; ensure timely escalation of operational issues to management.
- Support 24/7 network availability through on‑call coverage and after‑hours work when required.
- Maintain a customer‑focused approach, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
- Participate in design discussions with architecture, planning, operations, and cross‑functional teams to define deployment configurations and detailed designs.
- Prepare and present technical requirements and specifications to peer engineers and related groups.
- Manage daily activities related to service delivery and engineering task performance.
- Maintain regular communication with government stakeholders to ensure deliverables are clearly understood, timelines and quality goals are met, and emerging requirements are identified.
- Coordinate closely with the Operations Manager to ensure timely escalation of issues and alignment on performance metrics and reporting criteria.
- Serve as the first‑level supervisor for the Network Engineering Team, providing leadership, task management, and performance oversight.
- Oversee deployment and maintenance of customer infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, telecommunications, VoIP, security, and wireless networks, encompassing servers, routers, hubs, switches, firewalls, PBX equipment, IPS/IDS, and other hardware.
- Configure networks to ensure smooth, reliable operation in alignment with business objectives and processes.
- Provide directions to internal support teams and managed service providers consistent with best practices.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Collaborate with infrastructure engineering teams to assess near‑ and long‑term network capacity needs.
- Create and maintain documentation for network configurations, mapping, diagrams, processes, and service records.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and training plans for network administration and usage.
- Research network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain current with industry developments, recommending solutions that meet business or application needs.
- Practice network asset management, including inventory maintenance and related documentation.
- Monitor and test network performance, producing performance metric reports.
- Oversee upgrades of new and existing network equipment, hardware, and software.
- Coordinate the establishment of processes, procedures, and documentation to ensure 24/7 availability of local and wide area networks.
- Define, assign, and manage Network Engineering tasks within Jira.
- Evaluate new versions of network operating systems and equipment, making deployment recommendations and ensuring proper security measures are in place to protect corporate assets.
- Work with SharePoint and Windows engineering teams to achieve required connectivity and performance.
- Be available for work outside normal business hours, including on‑call support coverage.
- Exhibit a customer‑obsessed mindset, actively learning from employees and customers to operationalize innovative technologies for the best‑connected experience.
- Communicate tasks and goals clearly to subordinates, setting appropriate deadlines.
- Check in with team members to ensure tasks and projects remain on schedule.
- Identify training gaps and work with staff to develop skills to close those gaps.
- Mentor and train team members and peers as appropriate.
- Monitor daily work output to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Serve as an escalation point for team members when customer issues require elevated support.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent (college degree preferred).
- Certification: CCNA required; CCNP preferred.
- Technical Experience: 7‑10+ years of progressive networking experience.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise‑scale networks.
- Security Clearance: Top Secret Clearance.
Desired Requirements
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP Enterprise).
- ITIL Foundation Certification (process and service management).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Agile/Scrum experience.
- Familiarity with SD‑WAN, Zero Trust Networking, and network automation (Python, Ansible).
- Strong documentation and communication skills for stakeholder interaction.
