Overview The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco licenses the manufacture, distribution, sale, and service of alcoholic beverage and tobacco products in Florida, collects and audits taxes paid by licensees, and enforces related laws and regulations. The division’s three bureaus—Licensing, Auditing and Enforcement—are staffed by approximately 325 personnel statewide.

The Work You Will Do This professional position reports to the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, Bureau of Auditing, Miami Office. The role involves performing complex tax audits of alcohol and tobacco‑licensed entities, resolving difficult and unusual tax issues, and communicating with licensees via telephone, correspondence, or in person regarding tax payments.

Your Specific Responsibilities

Receive, record, and deposit currency collected by the division.

Verify checks and electronic funds transfers against monthly reports.

Manage cigarette tax indicia, including receipt and maintenance.

Prepare and submit required documents and reports for cigarette tax indicia, such as invoices, ledgers, and transaction reports.

Examine and audit purchase and sales documents—including receipts, invoices, and business records—for wholesale or retail establishments to verify accurate sales and determine tax liabilities.

Identify, collect, and analyze data on business transactions between entities, evaluate evidence of unreported liabilities, and notify entities for collection of unreported taxes.

Prepare and submit technical audit reports detailing all tax liabilities found and the basis for those liabilities.

Answer or direct inquiries from visitors and incoming calls to a qualified agency employee.

Maintain monthly reports, audits, and original bond files, verifying accuracy.

Process incoming and outgoing daily correspondence, including monthly reports and cigarette tax stamps to be mailed out of state.

Process and monitor purchase orders for receipt and payment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic mathematics principles.

Knowledge of methods of data collection, verification, and analysis.

Knowledge of accounting or tax auditing methods, principles, and procedures.

Knowledge of computer applications related to financial and tax analysis and auditing processes.

Knowledge of report writing techniques; ability to collect, compile, summarize, and analyze tax information.

Ability to utilize financial data to determine tax liabilities, develop audit criteria, and produce audit reports.

Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Requirements

Must possess at least one year of professional auditing or accounting experience.

Must possess a valid State of Florida driver’s license no later than the date of appointment.

Must be willing to use a personal vehicle for job assignments; reimbursement of $0.445 per mile.

Preferred Preference will be given to applicants with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university majoring in accounting or a business major that includes five courses in accounting.
