Division DIVISION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES & TOBACCO – Bureau of Auditing, Miami Office
About the Division The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco licenses the manufacture, distribution, sale, and service of alcoholic beverage and tobacco products in Florida, including receipt and processing of license applications; collection and auditing of taxes and fees paid by licensees; and enforcement of the laws and regulation of the alcoholic beverage and tobacco industries.
Responsibilities
Receive, receipt and deposit currency collected by the division.
Verify checks/EFTs to monthly reports.
Receives and maintains cigarette tax indicia.
Processes the sale of cigarette tax indicia, including the preparation of required documents and reports. These documents and reports include the preparation of invoices, posting transactions to accounts receivable ledger cards, and posting to the cigarette tax stamp control and transaction report.
Examines and audits purchase and sales documents including receipts, invoices, business records, and related accounting records of wholesale and/or retail establishments to verify accuracy of sales of product to recipients in Florida and to determine tax liabilities.
Identifies, collects data, and analyzes business transactions between entities. Evaluates evidence of unreported liabilities and notifies entity for collection of unreported tax liabilities.
Prepares and submits technical audit reports to supervisor detailing all tax liabilities found and the basis for those liabilities.
Answer or direct inquiries from visitors and incoming calls to a qualified agency employee.
Maintain monthly reports, audits and original bond files including verification of accuracy.
Process incoming and outgoing daily correspondence including monthly reports, cigarette tax stamps to be mailed out of state, when applicable.
Process and monitor purchase orders for receipt and payment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of principles of basic mathematics.
Knowledge of methods of data collection, verification, and analysis.
Knowledge of accounting or tax auditing methods, principles, and procedures.
Knowledge of computer applications as they relate to financial and tax analysis and auditing processes.
Knowledge of report writing techniques; Ability to collect, compile, summarize, and analyze tax information.
Ability to utilize financial data to determine tax liabilities, develops audit criteria, and produce audit reports.
Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum Requirements
Must possess a minimum of one year of professional auditing or accounting experience.
Must possess a valid State of Florida driver’s license no later than the date of appointment.
Must be willing to use personal vehicle to conduct job assignments. The selected applicant will be reimbursed $0.445 per mile.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in accounting or an area of business which includes five courses in accounting.
