Position Summary:
The Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ) is responsible for recruiting diverse and talented teachers to meet the staffing needs of New York Public Schools (NYCPS) and programs. TRQ promotes equitable and quality distribution of teachers across all schools. NYCPS anticipates a need to increase recruitment and training for new teachers to meet hiring demands presented by the new class size mandates and to ensure teacher quality as the number of teachers hired grows. TRQ uses a strategic, data-driven approach focusing on the following efforts:
Serve as the primary marketing agent and source of information to individuals seeking to become NYCPS teachers, recruiting a large, high-quality, equitable and diverse pool of candidates.
Design and manage recruitment and preparation programs, and pipelines for individuals to become NYCPS teachers, especially to address subject and geographic shortage areas.
Select a diverse and high-quality pool of candidates through rigorous, research-driven screening processes.
Design and implement high-quality field experiences for teacher candidates in both alternative certification and traditional pathways.
Provide inclusive best practices and support to schools to help them make optimal, local hiring decisions.
Lead pipeline and pathways to teacher certification for diverse candidates to promote equitable distribution across all schools.
Support new teachers with consistent onboarding experiences across the system when they are hired and throughout their first year.
The Teacher Preparation Team of TRQ works to ensure aligned pipelines and coherent development opportunities that address evolving teacher workforce needs through alternative certification programs, partnerships with institutions of higher education, and ongoing learning and development programs.
The Program Coordinator supports teacher preparation and development programs by collecting and analyzing data related to educator engagement, partner collaboration, staffing, training, and recruitment. This role informs program improvements, provides regular reporting to leadership, develops quality control and optimization of data systems, and supports special initiatives and cross‑functional projects.
Reports to:
Deputy Senior Director, Instructional Program Design and Implementation
Key Relationships:
Senior Director of Teacher Preparation, Deputy Senior Director of Teacher Preparation, ASPDP Program Director, teacher‑candidate stakeholders, school‑based staff, and education partners.
Responsibilities Communications
Delivers responsive support to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring high quality customer service and escalating issues appropriately.
Supports outreach efforts by preparing materials and executing outreach strategies via email and marketing platforms to engage stakeholders, including underrepresented educators and community partners.
Data & Analysis
Maintains and updates data tools for program analysis (e.g., NYCTF surveys, ASPDP participant feedback reports).
Collects, organizes, and synthesizes stakeholder feedback to inform reporting cycles and guide program enhancements.
Project Management
Monitors progress on assigned project deliverables and deadlines, contributing to successful execution of broader workstreams.
Supports logistical and planning support for teacher preparation and development programs, ensuring alignment with cross-functional priorities.
Operations & Systems
Supports the implementation and maintenance of relationship management systems and digital platforms for pre‑service and in‑service teachers and external partners.
Develops and maintains program guides and resources including policy updates for teachers and partners.
Supports program review and process improvements by gathering inputs, organizing documentation, and tracking follow‑up actions.
Qualifications Minimum
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; or
High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; or
Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above, with at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.
Preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and standard project management software.
Experience working in or with urban public schools.
Experience in a fast‑paced environment or an education/government setting.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication, presentation, storytelling, and interpersonal skills.
Project management experience, including goal‑setting and tracking.
Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) and advanced spreadsheet functions.
Strong written communication skills and keen attention to detail.
Flexibility to manage competing tasks independently and as part of a team.
Salary : $72,114 - $79,325. (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
