Position Summary The Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ) leads the recruitment of diverse and talented teachers for New York City Public Schools (NYCPS). As a strategic, data‑driven organization, TRQ works to meet staffing needs, promote equitable teacher distribution, and expand the workforce to support new class‑size mandates.

Serve as the primary marketing agent and source of information for prospective NYCPS teachers, recruiting a large, high‑quality, equitable, and diverse candidate pool.

Design and manage recruitment and preparation programs, and pipelines to address subject and geographic shortages.

Select a diverse, high‑quality candidate group through rigorous, research‑driven screening processes.

Design and implement high‑quality field experiences for teacher candidates in alternative certification and traditional pathways.

Provide inclusive best practices and support to schools for optimal, local hiring decisions.

Lead pipeline and pathway initiatives to promote equitable teacher distribution.

Support new teachers with consistent onboarding and first‑year experiences.

Reports To Director of Data, Operations and Communications

Direct Reports Community Coordinators and Consultants

Key Relationships Works closely with district teams, school leaders, vendors, and internal partners within TRQ.

Responsibilities

Supervise community coordinators, seasonal consultants, and vendors to implement the District Recruitment to Retention Partnership.

Project manage implementation and scaling, co‑lead annual planning, and refine the partnership’s strategic direction.

Ensure cohesive relationship management and consistent engagement with district partners.

Develop a comprehensive communication plan and operational systems to gather and act on partner feedback.

Maintain timely communication loops between districts and TRQ, surfacing challenges and sharing best practices.

Design and maintain data tools, dashboards, and reports to monitor implementation and outcomes.

Act as liaison between the Teacher Induction, Support and Leadership Team and the Strategic Partnerships Team.

Facilitate knowledge sharing, align tools and resources, and support districts along the retention continuum.

Design and facilitate professional development for superintendent teams to support implementation.

Collaborate with the Deputy Senior Director on new initiatives to strengthen induction and retention.

Contribute to the development, refinement, and tracking of key performance indicators and evaluation metrics.

Analyze data and adapt approaches for continuous improvement.

Ensure alignment with the Inclusive Teacher Recruitment and Hiring Initiative and Teacher Retention Toolkit.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

A master’s degree in a related field (e.g., economics, public administration, human resources, operations research, or similar) or a Juris Doctor with two years of full‑time experience in an executive, managerial, or supervisory capacity related to budget, program evaluation, personnel management, or teacher recruitment.

Four years of full‑time professional experience, including 18 months of managerial or supervisory experience, in any of the fields listed above.

Equivalent education and experience, with graduate education substituting for professional experience where possible, but still requiring a bachelor’s degree and 18 months of managerial experience.

Preferred

Advanced degree in public policy, business, education, or related fields.

Interest in teacher induction and development.

Experience as a teacher, especially in urban public schools.

Experience in education‑focused data analysis or program evaluation.

Experience managing and leading teams, setting direction, supporting development, and driving performance.

Experience in project management, including goal setting, tracking, planning, and implementation.

Strong organizational, relationship management, and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to work with and through others to achieve success.

Proficient skills with Microsoft Office 365 applications.

Salary $95,900 - $105,490. (Internal candidates selected for this position and currently holding comparable or lesser positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
