Position Purpose Lead the development and continuous improvement of best-in-class assortment planning practices. Drive strategic initiatives that transform how assortment decisions are made, leveraging advanced analytics, automation, and cross‑functional collaboration. Serve as a thought leader and change agent, ensuring the team delivers actionable insights and scalable solutions that align with Home Depot’s merchandising vision and business goals.
Key Responsibilities

Partner with Merchants to set strategic priorities, goals and timelines for each review. Provide process management for monitoring progress and proactively identifying and communicating issues. Review project milestones, conduct post‑mortem analysis and integrate new sources of data that support category objectives. Lead the team in structuring category reviews, assessing requirements and designing analysis that influences category strategy. Provide thought leadership to the team relative to category reviews. Oversee development of executive‑level presentations that summarize analysis, including historical category performance, strategic rationale underpinning assortment decisions and expected financial impact. Lead reporting to all levels of management. Accountable for the team’s accuracy, thoroughness, thought process, timeliness and viability of recommendations.

Work with MVPs to develop and maintain a calendar of category reviews. Develop connections with cross‑functional teams to further enhance analytical insight and viability of executing assortment changes. Provide program management of Portfolio Strategy. Deepen category knowledge through consumer insights.

Own SVP/MVP relationship for designated departments. Leadership roles in strategic projects. Ad hoc analysis and reporting.
Direct Manager / Direct Reports
Director, Assortment Planning
Accountable for the management of a department or functional group through subordinate supervisors/managers and for all personnel issues including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.
Travel Requirements
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements
Most of the time spent sitting. Occasional need to move or lift light items.
Working Conditions
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
Deep expertise in assortment planning, category management, and PLR/BR processes.
Proven experience leading cross‑functional initiatives and process transformation.
Strong analytical and project management skills; experience with advanced analytics and automation tools.
Strategic thinker with a bias for execution and continuous improvement.
Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into actionable technical solutions.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Experience defining business requirements and partnering with IT/product teams.
Intellectually curious, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to drive change in a dynamic environment.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
