The University of Virginia Department of Pediatrics and the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition invite applications for a non‑tenure eligible clinical faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.
The position is ideal for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in advancing career through excellence in clinical practice, education, quality improvement, and advocacy.
Rank and compensation are dependent upon qualifications.
The Division is part of a top‑ranked Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery program in Virginia.
With interests in inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric liver transplantation, eosinophilic GI disorders, disorders of gut‑brain interaction, aerodigestive disorders, intestinal rehabilitation, nutrition, and global health, the Division provides a full array of pediatric gastroenterology subspecialty care to the Commonwealth and beyond.
Annual patient volume includes approximately 7,000 outpatient visits and 1,800 procedures (capsule endoscopy, pH/MII, esophageal dilation, transnasal endoscopy).
The Division’s clinical mission is supported by nurse practitioners, psychologists, dietitians, nurse care coordinators, physical & occupational therapists, and social workers.
The Division maintains a vibrant ACGME‑accredited fellowship program and collaborates closely with Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Radiology, Transplant Surgery, and adult Gastroenterology to provide a full spectrum of interventional gastrointestinal procedures.
The University of Virginia Medical Center and Children’s Hospital are adjacent to the main university grounds and are consistently ranked among the top public institutions in the United States.
UVA Health includes a Level 1 trauma center, an NCI‑designated comprehensive cancer center, and a Level IV NICU.
Charlottesville offers a high quality of life with cultural, recreational, and culinary amenities.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive clinical care in pediatric gastroenterology, including outpatient and inpatient services as well as advanced procedures.
Educate medical students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals in clinical, research, and quality improvement topics.
Engage in quality improvement initiatives focused on inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric liver transplant, and mental health of children with chronic illnesses.
Contribute to research with a focus on global health; secure and manage NIH funding and other research grants.
Collaborate with surgical, radiology, transplant, and adult gastroenterology colleagues on interdisciplinary patient care.
Qualifications
M.D. or D.O. degree.
Eligible for appointment to University of Virginia faculty.
Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Gastroenterology (or comparable subspecialty).
Excellent clinical, educational, and research record.
Experience in quality improvement and patient advocacy.
Required Credentials
U.S. medical licensure.
Active board certification or eligibility in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
