We are seeking a strategic Director of Project Accounting to lead all financial operations related to our real estate development projects. This key leadership role will guide a team through the Senior Controller, ensuring robust financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls. The Director will partner closely with executive leadership to provide critical insights that shape project decisions and drive long‑term organizational success.

Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain scalable accounting processes, systems, and reporting tools to support growth across the development portfolio.

Oversee job costing, capitalized expenses, and budget-to-actual comparisons for all active projects.

Direct month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close cycles, guaranteeing complete and timely financial statements.

Coordinate external audits and tax compliance efforts, working with auditors and advisors to deliver clean results.

Collaborate with development, operations, and legal teams to align financial data with project goals and timelines.

Develop and implement internal controls and policies to protect assets and ensure adherence to standards.

Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and variance reporting to inform senior management decisions.

Mentor the Senior Controller and support the professional growth of the broader accounting team.

Establish clear monthly accounting calendars to manage deadlines for closes, reconciliations, and funding draws.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; active CPA highly desired.

10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.

Substantial background in real estate development or construction accounting required.

Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, project‑based financial reporting, and industry‑specific practices.

Demonstrated success overseeing accounting for multi‑project or multi‑entity portfolios.

Proficiency with real estate‑focused accounting platforms (e.g., Yardi, MRI, Sage) and advanced Excel capabilities.

Exceptional leadership, analytical, and interpersonal skills to guide teams and influence cross‑functional partners.

Proven ability to prioritize in a high‑pressure, deadline‑oriented setting.
