Base Pay Range $16.00/hr - $33.99/hr
About The Role Total Wine and More is seeking a Staff Accountant I, Merchandise Accounting, to join our Merchandising Accounting Team in our Bethesda, MD Office. In this role, you will review invoices for accuracy and proper coding and enter them into an automated accounting system for payment processing. You will review vendor statements, resolve payment discrepancies, and respond to vendors’ inquiries, for both accounts payable and accounts receivable. Additional responsibilities may include collaborating with the Supply Chain team to process freight payments, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution. You will report to the Manager of Merchandise Accounting.
You will
Review store invoices and purchase orders for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company standards; upload and process invoices using Access, Excel, and Lawson Accounts Payable
Prepare invoice batches for supervisor review, ensure proper coding, mail check payments, and file paid invoices while maintaining accurate records
Follow up with vendors, store managers, and employees to resolve discrepancies and open issues
Review vendor statements for omissions and exceptions; research payment history and outstanding checks to ensure resolution and accuracy
Review and apply payments in the database and Lawson as received from the suppliers
Communicate discrepancies to team leader and management
Review and/or respond to supplier inquiries as received or elevate issue to team lead/management
You will come with
Bachelor's Degree or Associates Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field. preferred or equivalent years of experience
1+ years of accounting experience preferred
Knowledge of basic accounting principles
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
Proficient mathematical skills
Strong Attention to detail
Working knowledge and proficiency in MS Excel and Word
Knowledge of Lawson/Infor or other automated A/P systems, is preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality
