An IT Solutions Architect position is available with the City of Fort Worth IT Solutions Platform Technologies Division (Infrastructure Team). This role designs and guides the overall architecture of enterprise technology solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and business objectives. They evaluate and select technologies, frameworks, and platforms to deliver secure, scalable, and efficient systems. The role requires collaboration with stakeholders across business, development, and operations to translate requirements into sustainable designs. The architect also sets standards, best practices, and governance models to ensure interoperability and long‑term maintainability.
Key technical competencies include SAN/NAS architectures, storage protocols (iSCSI, NFS, SMB, Fibre Channel), enterprise storage platforms (Pure Storage, Dell EMC), hypervisors such as VMware vSphere/ESXi, backup platforms (Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, Cohesity), Active Directory Domain/forest design, replication, trust relationships, integration with authentication/authorization systems (Kerberos, NTLM, Entra Connect).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business or a related field.
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience designing and implementing virtualization, storage, and hybrid cloud solutions.
Valid Driver’s License.
Candidate selected for hire must pass a CJIS background check.
Preferred Qualifications
VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) or VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX).
Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
Security certifications like CISSP, CISM, or GIAC.
Storage certifications (e.g., Pure Storage, NetApp, Dell EMC, HPE).
Proven experience designing and supporting hybrid cloud architectures, integrating on‑premises infrastructure with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), and implementing secure, scalable connectivity between environments.
Demonstrated proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, or similar languages to streamline operations, enhance system reliability, and support infrastructure‑as‑code practices.
The IT Solutions Architect Job Responsibilities Include
Designing and presenting complex architectures to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Utilizing automation and orchestration tools to drive efficiency and standardization.
Providing advanced systems administration, operations, maintenance, and support of network-related IT systems.
Diagnosing and solving software bugs and security vulnerabilities associated with IT systems.
Ensuring compliance requirements (CJIS, HIPAA, etc.) relevant to infrastructure and data protection.
Translating business requirements into scalable, secure, and cost-effective technical solutions.
Creating clear, accurate, and scalable technical diagrams using tools such as Visio or Draw.io to communicate architectures, data flows, integrations, and system dependencies to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking, and repetitive motions. Sedentary work typically involves sitting most of the time; tasks may require lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally.
Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Background Check Applicants must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint‑based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in disqualification: Felony convictions, felony deferred adjudication, Class A misdemeanor conviction, Class B misdemeanor convictions in the last 10 years, Class A misdemeanor deferred adjudication, Class B misdemeanor deferred adjudication in the last 10 years, an open arrest for any criminal offense (felony or misdemeanor), and all family violence convictions regardless of class.
