Job Overview A premier full-service intellectual property law firm based in Atlanta is seeking a Patent Litigation Associate with 1-4 years of IP litigation experience to join its dynamic and growing practice. This boutique firm brings together over 15 attorneys with a combined 150+ years of IP experience, offering a collaborative environment where associates work directly with partners on sophisticated patent disputes for significant clients.
This role is ideal for an attorney with intellectual property litigation experience, including exposure to patent litigation, who is seeking a platform that offers hands‑on client contact, courtroom experience, and meaningful business development opportunities. Unlike large firms where junior associates are confined to document review, this position provides direct involvement in all phases of litigation—from case strategy through depositions, motions practice, and trial.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft pleadings, memorandums, and legal briefs for complex patent infringement litigation, inter‑partes review (IPR) proceedings, and related IP disputes
Engage in direct client interactions and manage client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor on litigation strategy, case developments, and risk assessment
Take and defend depositions in patent litigation matters, including technical and expert witness depositions
Argue motions before federal district courts, including claim construction (Markman) hearings, summary judgment motions, and discovery disputes
Support litigation strategies across all phases of patent disputes, from pre‑suit investigation through trial and appeal
Collaborate with technical experts, patent agents, and co‑counsel to develop compelling infringement and invalidity theories
Participate in business development efforts of the IP Litigation group, including client presentations, industry networking, and thought leadership activities
Conduct patent portfolio analysis, claim charts, and freedom‑to‑operate assessments to support litigation and counseling matters
Assist with alternative dispute resolution, including mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations
Qualifications
✅ 1-4 years of IP litigation experience, with demonstrated exposure to patent litigation matters
✅ Strong legal research and writing skills, with proven ability to draft sophisticated legal memoranda and court filings
✅ Solid experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other litigation documents
✅ Willingness to engage in business development activities, including client presentations and industry networking
✅ Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
✅ USPTO registration preferred, or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar exam (technical degree in engineering, computer science, or related field)
✅ Admission to practice in Georgia or ability to waive in
✅ Federal court admission or willingness to obtain admission to Northern District of Georgia and other relevant federal courts
Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to explain complex technical and legal concepts clearly to clients, courts, and juries
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, particularly in understanding patent claims, technical specifications, and prior art
Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment, partnering effectively with partners, technical experts, and clients
Technical aptitude, with ability to quickly grasp complex technologies in fields such as software, electrical engineering, mechanical devices, and life sciences
Deposition and motion practice experience, with comfort conducting witness examinations and presenting oral arguments
Client service orientation, with commitment to responsive communication and practical legal advice
Business development mindset, with interest in building client relationships and contributing to firm growth
Strong organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple litigation matters and competing deadlines
