Primary Responsibilities

The Senior Traffic Engineer will work as a member of the Traffic and Planning engineering design team, collaborating with civil engineers on projects serving clients throughout New England and the national transportation network.

Lead the design of traffic engineering projects to support our clients while prioritizing the safety, health, and welfare of the public.

Apply best practices and demonstrate thorough understanding of applicable design and safety standards in all phases of development.

Engage in traffic modeling, traffic studies and report preparation, traffic impact studies, capacity analyses, and the creation of signal designs and traffic control plans for clients such as MassDOT, MBTA, NHDOT, RIDOT, and the City of Boston.

Maintain a high level of professionalism and self‑motivation while performing engineering assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification.

Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification.

Proficiency in Synchro SimTraffic and/or PTV Vissim.

Experience with MassDOT, CTDOT, RIDOT, MBTA, and Massachusetts municipalities.

Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; recommended experience with MicroStation OpenRoads.

Experience in project management and/or lead traffic engineering responsibilities.

Local candidates given preference.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in ITS and traffic engineering for urban and rural highways, major and minor interchanges, and intersections.

Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer PE or P.Eng).

Knowledge of regulations of state and federal transportation agencies.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Experience using HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic, and other relevant software packages.

Strong oral and written communication skills, presentation skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
