ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSE – JUVENILE SERVICES

Provides advanced professional nursing care which includes the delivery of primary health care, diagnoses, and treatment of common medical conditions, health education and counseling; plans, coordinates, administers, reviews and evaluates nursing and related health services provided in Juvenile Services programs; and performs related work as required.
This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Washoe County Department of Juvenile Services. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and sufficient advanced, specialized nursing training to qualify for the State of Nevada certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, with a subspecialty of pediatrics or family medicine.
License or Certificate
A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with the Nevada State Board of Nursing is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
A Practitioner Dispensing Certification with the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy is required within three months of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
An Active Prescribing - D license with the Nevada State Board of Nursing is required within three months of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
Ideal Candidate Criteria
Licensed APRN with experience providing care to children and adolescents.
Passionate about the mission and committed to supporting youth in detention.
Comfortable working in a detention medical clinic performing a wide range of APRN functions: vaccines, testing, physicals, treating injuries and illnesses, intake screening, diagnosing, interpreting lab and medical results, prescribing, making referrals, and more.
Skilled at communicating and collaborating with detention staff, probation officers, and mental health teams.
Able to consult effectively with parents, probation officers, and other providers regarding youth care.
Flexible to work non-business hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Organized, professional, and resilient in high-need youth environments.
After the interview, top candidates must pass a background investigation which includes:
Submit a set of fingerprints
Complete and submit a personal history statement
Must submit to a TB test at own expense upon offer of employment OR must submit verification of a Negative TB test dated within 90 days prior to appointment.
Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
Washoe County hires all new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range and eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification. Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
Juvenile Services falls under the direction of the District Court, and as such, Juvenile Services is not a part of Washoe County's merit personnel system, and Juvenile Services employees are not members of a bargaining unit. However, full-time or part-time permanent employment with the Department of Juvenile Services offers the same attractive benefit package and salary schedule as any other Washoe County Department.
