Responsibilities
Handling multiple preconstruction projects simultaneously by reviewing and creating 2D and 3D drawings using BIM models or other design software programs (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, SketchUp) for building coordination; communicating and collaborating with the BIM design team and others while utilizing clash detection in Mechanical‑Electrical‑Plumbing (MEP) design; and working with the Estimating Department to develop BIM modeling for estimates and proposal submittals. This also includes managing BIM documentation and files for the project team;
Preparing for a pre‑construction project by performing pre‑build estimating (including the creation of estimating bid packages using construction industry software), planning, and job setup. Specifically, the position works closely with the Estimating Department to prepare and estimate construction budget costs by studying plans and specifications and traveling to sites with the Senior Estimator and Preconstruction Manager;
Assisting the Preconstruction Manager in overseeing the design progress of design‑assist and design‑build projects in terms of scope control, schedule impact, and coordination and in creating preliminary construction schedules and site logistic plans;
Serving as a resource for Project Managers and field personnel as issues arise regarding designs that were developed during preconstruction as well as assisting field personnel on site with surveying and layout using Trimble Robotic Total Station with BIM information to ensure conformance with preconstruction plans;
Responsible for developing the construction management, traffic control, and other plans required by government agencies for proposals, permit applications, and preconstruction estimates and for compiling and submitting permit applications in order to begin construction;
Building client relationships. This involves meeting with clients, potential clients, architects, engineers, and other subcontractors to provide design recommendations and cost data regarding project feasibility;
Mentoring Project Engineers using Revit and other design software programs discussed in job duty #1;
Incidental travel to construction sites (all within commuting distance of the office) approximately four times per month for 3 to 4 hours.
Requirements
Completing one large‑scale (one hundred units or more), mixed‑use (i.e., commercial and multi‑family) new construction project from start to finish;
Two (2) years of experience using Revit to coordinate projects' structural, mechanical, and plumbing systems;
One (1) year of experience creating estimating bid packages;
One (1) year of experience in the structural, mechanical, and electrical components of historical renovation projects;
Two (2) years of experience estimating using a construction industry software for large‑scale (one hundred units or more), mixed‑use (i.e., commercial and multi‑family) new construction projects at a general contracting firm. All experience may be gained concurrently.
Salary: $85,800/year to $110,000/year
