is hiring a
Journeyman Systems Security Engineer
to serve as a Registration Authority (RA) supporting Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) operations for a critical U.S. Coast Guard cybersecurity program. This hybrid position will be based in Alexandria, VA. Responsibilities
Adhere to policies outlined in the Certificate Practice Statement and enforce Coast Guard procedures. Validate requester identity and access entitlements for certificate issuance. Process enrollment requests for privileged accounts and server TLS certificates. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving certificate‑related issues, including revocation of compromised certificates. Provide guidance and training to Coast Guard Trusted Agents on certificate procedures. Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with DoD and Coast Guard security frameworks. Ensure accurate record‑keeping for all certificate requests and approvals. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field with 5‑8 years of experience (or commensurate experience). Required Skills and Experience
Current clearance up to an active Secret clearance. Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE). Familiarity with Registration Authority (RA) and/or Trusted Agent duties in a DoD environment. General understanding of digital certificates, CSR formats, and trust chains. Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks relevant to PKI (e.g., NIST, DoD RMF). Strong problem‑solving skills for identity and certificate management issues. Excellent communication skills for stakeholder interaction and training. Preferred Skills and Experience
U.S. Coast Guard experience highly preferred. Advanced PKI or ICAM certifications (e.g., Certified Identity and Access Manager). Familiarity with enterprise identity solutions and risk assessment methodologies. Experience with tools such as Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services, Entrust, or similar PKI platforms. USD $105,000.00 – USD $126,000.00 per year. Base pay offered may vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package may include additional elements discussed during the hiring process. If hired, the employee will be in an ‘at-will’ position, and GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary and other discretionary payments at any time.
