Job Description The Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine is seeking an Academic Hospitalist Nocturnist with a passion for nighttime clinical service (7 pm‑7 am). The role focuses on inpatient care within an academic setting, providing direct patient care, consulting with medical staff, interpreting laboratory results, teaching residents and medical students, and managing patient flow. The position also involves maintaining quality and safety standards, coordinating patient care across the hospital system, implementing care protocols, providing medical advice to referring physicians, and potentially presenting research projects. Candidates with a BC/BE in Internal Medicine and/or Family Medicine are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
CLINICAL:
Serve as an Internal Medicine Hospitalist Nocturnist at Tampa General Hospital. Provide coverage for transplant patients, general internal medicine patients (teaching and non‑teaching), medical consultations, transplant medicine consultations, and co‑management of surgical services. Work a 7 pm‑7 am schedule with 7 on/7 off block scheduling, with some flexibility.
TEACHING:
Teach medical students and residents in inpatient medicine; primarily supervise residents in the inpatient setting and precept medical students in ambulatory clerkships.
Report to a Chair or other high‑level administrator of a State university.
Engage in academic duties such as teaching, research, service, administrative activities, and academic advising.
Represent the university, college, or department as required.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
Meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor, produce creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field.
Hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent. Maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan and be a medical staff member in good standing at hospitals where clinical duties are performed.
Participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.
Preferred
1–3 years of physician or hospitalist experience.
Experience with hospital medicine and in an academic medical center.
Proven track record in teaching and/or clinical research.
Desire to work as a nocturnist.
