Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and motivated Optometrist to join a boutique comprehensive ophthalmology practice with a strong emphasis on medical management. This role involves managing complex ocular and systemic conditions while working closely with ophthalmologists and external referring providers. The ideal candidate is clinically confident, collaborative, and interested in contributing to both patient care and practice growth. Clinical Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive and problem-focused eye examinations with an emphasis on medical conditions and pathology.

Diagnose, treat, and manage ocular disease, including:

Cataracts

Diabetic eye disease (diabetic retinopathy, macular edema)

Glaucoma (evaluation, treatment, and long-term management)

Corneal and external eye diseases (dry eye disease, keratitis, dystrophies, infections)

Other ocular diseases

Co-manage surgical patients with ophthalmologists (e.g., cataract, glaucoma, and refractive)

Interpret and utilize diagnostic testing, including OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, corneal topography, and pachymetry

Prescribe and manage topical and systemic medications within scope of practice

Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)

Educate patients on diagnoses, treatment plans, and long-term disease management

Serve as a clinical liaison between the ophthalmology practice and referring optometrists, fostering strong professional relationships

Communicate clinical findings and co-management plans clearly and effectively with outside providers

Participate in outreach initiatives, educational events, or professional meetings to support practice growth and referral development

Represent the practice in the local optometric and medical community

Contribute to the development and refinement of clinical protocols and co-management pathways

Qualifications

Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school

Active state optometry license (or eligibility for licensure)

Therapeutic pharmaceutical agent (TPA) certification (as required by state)

Strong clinical skills in medical optometry and disease management

Ability to manage a small team and consistent patient workflow while maintaining excellent clinical standards

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills and Experience

Optometry Glaucoma Specialist certification (e.g., ocular disease, cornea/contact lens, or related specialty)

Prior experience in an ophthalmology or medically oriented optometric practice

Experience managing glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and corneal pathology

Comfort co-managing surgical patients in a multidisciplinary environment

Experience with referral relationship management or practice outreach

Proficiency with EMR systems
