The Role & the Team As a Senior Sales Engineer working in the SLED space, you will be a trusted advisor to account managers and current/future customers. You will deliver People‑Centric solutions that protect against today’s cyber threats and support Proofpoint’s entire portfolio. This role focuses on State and Local Government as well as Education accounts primarily in the Central U.S., with a strong preference for candidates located in the U.S. Central time zone.

Responsibilities

Act as Technical Lead for the Proofpoint Pre‑Sales process.

Collaborate with sales to develop and execute targeted account penetration strategies.

Build trust and be the main technical point of contact throughout the sales process.

Deliver compelling product demonstrations that address pressing cyber threats.

Work closely with security staff for technical discovery, Proof‑of‑Concept (POC) and Production Evaluations.

Design and champion complex People‑Centric Security solutions across the portfolio.

Assist in professional services deployments, technical training, and industry seminars or trade shows.

Provide customer insight to Product Management, Marketing, and Product Development teams.

Become an expert in Email Security Gateways, Advanced Persistent Threats, Attack Protection, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and the threat landscape.

Mentor new team members, develop and deliver training presentations, and contribute across all corporate communication channels.

Qualifications

6+ years of hands‑on technical experience in cybersecurity, including Sales/Systems Engineer, Technical Account Manager, or Security Engineer.

Proven track record of developing and maintaining customer relationships in local territories.

Experience working with large Enterprise clients and delivering large‑scale assessments or evaluations.

Comfortable presenting to technical staff and C‑suite.

Experience in Enterprise or Cloud Security, including cloud/SaaS platforms and network, endpoint, or SOC environments.

Exposure to Cloud security, Shadow IT monitoring, DLP, compliance and privacy, and enterprise email solutions.

Strong PowerPoint, presentation, and organizational skills; a bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant field.

Travel is required for this position.
