Job Description & Duties Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, the Equipment Operator II (CEO II) will operate and service vehicles requiring a Class A commercial driver’s licence with a tank (N) endorsement and perform work related to highway maintenance, structures maintenance, construction, and landscape maintenance. When not operating the specified equipment, the Operator II may perform any of the duties outlined under Equipment Operator I, Highway or Landscape Maintenance Worker, and perform other related highway maintenance work. They must maintain knowledge of all current mandated and all safety training and standards, policies, practices, directives and expectations, and comply with all departmental training and safe work practice requirements. They may be assigned to other operation units and/or geographical areas as operations needs dictate. Overnight travel out of town up to 80 percent of the time may be required.
Special Requirements
Valid California Driver’s Licence (CDL). Provide CDL number, class, expiration date, endorsements and restrictions.
Pass a drug screening prior to being hired.
Valid unrestricted Class A commercial driver’s licence with tank (N) endorsement.
Eligibility Eligibility may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Equipment Operator II Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility and/or will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list.
