Maintenance Worker (Seasonal)

Position located in a National Park Service unit in the maintenance division. The incumbent will perform simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities.
Main duties are performed during the seasonal entry‑on‑duty period of April to December 2026, with possible variation due to weather, project needs or funding.
Note: No public transportation to the park.
Duties
Performs simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities.
Assists higher‑graded maintenance workers or tradesmen.
Performs minor carpentry repairs such as replacing broken picnic table planks, windows, hinges, latches and catches.
Performs minor painting with brush and roller for non‑critical appearance projects.
Performs minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing fixtures, removing drain clogs, and replacing gas bottles.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship required.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program participation required.
Minimum age 18, or age 16 with high school graduation or equivalent; or vocational training completion; or enrollment in secondary school with part‑time work.
Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Probation 1‑year probationary period to evaluate fitness and alignment with public interest. At the end of this period, employment continues only if written certification is provided.
Qualifications
Ability to perform all duties without more than normal supervision.
Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
Familiarity with technical practices, blueprint reading, and use of tools and measuring instruments.
Ability to interpret instructions and specifications.
Knowledge of materials.
Uniform required, with allowance; may work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions Moderately heavy physical effort, lifting up to 50 lb, frequent 40 lb lifts, and pushing heavy objects. Work conducted outdoors in all weather, indoors in heated and ventilated spaces. Hazard precautions required.
Position not suitable for telework.
