Salary Range:
$95,000 to $112,227
Position Overview This position is Executive Command and managerial law enforcement work at a University campus or other State facility. Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Police, the role involves oversight of multiple units and a higher level of delegated authority. The Captain may serve as a backup to the Deputy Chief of Police depending on the organizational structure.
Duties include, but are not limited to: developing policies and procedures; planning and organizing operations; managing budget development; allocating resources; and maintaining appropriate relationships with the community, campus stakeholders, media outlets and other local law enforcement agencies.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit The primary mission of Police and Public Safety is to provide a safe and secure environment supporting the University’s pursuit of research and academic excellence. Our highly dedicated law enforcement professionals continually strive to reduce crime, accidents and loss of property through investigative processes and effective community partnerships.
Minimum Requirements A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or greater and eight years of sworn law enforcement officer experience, or an associate degree and ten years if sworn law enforcement officer experience. At least four years of the experience must have been in a supervisory role equivalent. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.
