Support Care Assistant - Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital Location: Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital, 1901 Pennsylvania Ave., St. Louis, MO 63133

We are looking for a positive and energetic Support Care Assistant who has an interest in helping children with mental illness maximize their potential. Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital uses the Sanctuary Model to guide interactions with our teammates and the care we provide to our consumers, promoting healing, safety, and nonviolence. This is accomplished by following the Foundation of Sanctuary – The Four Pillars: (1) Trauma Theory, (2) Seven Commitments, (3) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotion, Loss, and Future), (4) Sanctuary Tool Kit.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Perform basic non-professional psychiatric and general nursing work.

Establish effective interpersonal relationships with residents, co-workers, and other members of the health care team.

Contribute to the maintenance of a therapeutic environment.

Render basic nursing care.

Assist individuals with daily living and hygiene tasks.

Observe, report, and record changes in the physical condition, behavior response, and emotional status of individuals.

Participate in activities with the individuals.

Report to work on time and as scheduled.

No experience necessary; paid training is provided.

Must be 21 years old.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Pass a background screening.

Able to lift 45 lbs vertically from floor to shoulder height.

Run, walk, or jog a distance of 400 yards.

Pull 45 lbs at least 20 feet.

Kneel on floor to perform CPR.

Implement crisis intervention techniques and emergency treatment procedures.

Demonstrate strong leadership and team building abilities.

One or more years of work experience or self-employment.

Possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Benefits The State of Missouri offers an excellent benefits package that includes a defined pension plan, generous amounts of leave and holiday time, and eligibility for health insurance coverage. Total compensation is more than the dollars you receive in your paycheck. An additional $2.00 per hour is added for evening and night shift employees. An additional 5% pay differential is added if holding active CNA licensure through DHSS.
