Summary Description Under the direction of the middle school principal, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for adolescent students. Working with interdisciplinary teams, provides a school culture conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for every student. Supervises middle school students in a variety of school-related settings. Communicates and collaborates with middle school students, staff, parents, and community. Develops, selects, and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all middle school students. Maintains appropriate records, follows required procedures and practices, and uses data analysis to monitor student achievement. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Knowledge of adolescent development, content expertise, and MCPS curriculum and policies.

Commitment to the belief that all students can learn with high content and high expectations.

Ability to use instructional and behavioral management strategies for middle school adolescents, integrating reading, writing, math, and technology across content areas.

Ability to self-reflect on instructional practices and interactions for continuous improvement.

Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, centralized and school-based staff, students, parents, and community.

Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

Commitment to equity and serving as an advocate and role model for diverse learners.

Knowledge and application of the MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS) standards and related growth systems.

Education, Training, Experience

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.

Knowledge of adolescent learners.

Certificate/license: Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
