Forester 1 - Commerce - Forestry - Lincoln Co.
Forester 1 - LINCOLN COUNTY. Under direct supervision, works at a training level with specialization in the performance of technical and field work. The primary responsibility will be forest management in Kanawha County, along with fire prevention, preparedness, and suppression activities. Additional duties include delivering fire prevention messages to media, groups, schools, and individuals; recruiting, training, and checking equipment of forest fire wardens, patrollers, and firefighters; supervising and directing forest fire suppression efforts and investigating forest fires; conducting spot checks and complaint investigations on logging operations; assisting in logger training and in liaison with the Logging Sediment Control Act; assisting landowners with technical assistance and advice, preparing stewardship plans, and checking reports of insect and disease; providing assistance to other agencies and employees as needed; and performing other duties as requested. As a condition of employment, a background inquiry will be completed, covering criminal records, abuse registry records, driving records, employment history, and education and training. Failure to cooperate, provide false or incomplete information, or discovery of disqualifying information will result in denial irrespective of the information discovered.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in a Forest Technology program recognized by the Society of American Foresters, OR a Bachelor’s degree in a forestry program accredited by the Society of American Foresters
Current license as a registered professional forester or a registered forestry technician, or in the process of obtaining professional licensure
Valid driver’s license
Must pass a physical examination within the first six months of employment and submit to annual follow-up examinations
Must become a Special Natural Resources Police Officer at the earliest opportunity following employment and maintain that commission throughout the period of employment (requirement may be waived at the discretion of the State Forester)
