Forester 3 – Kanawha County
A full‑time position at the Department of Health, Health Facilities, and Human Services.
Primary responsibility is forest management in Kanawha County. Duties include:
Fire prevention, preparedness, and suppression; communicating fire prevention messages to media, groups, schools, and individuals.
Recruiting, training, and checking equipment for forest fire wardens, patrollers, and firefighters.
Supervising and directing forest fire suppression efforts, investigating forest fires.
Conducting spot checks and investigating logging operation complaints, assisting logger training, and advising on the Logging Sediment Control Act.
Providing technical advice to landowners, preparing stewardship plans, and reviewing insect and disease reports.
Assisting other agencies and employees as required.
As a condition of employment, a background inquiry will be conducted. Failure to cooperate or provide false information may result in denial or termination.
Applicants will be evaluated on the following qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications
Training : Associate degree in a Forest Technology program recognized by the Society of American Foresters, or Bachelor's degree in a forestry program accredited by the Society of American Foresters.
Experience : Three years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in the field of forestry.
Special Requirements :
Must hold a current license as a registered professional forester or forestry technician, or be in the process of obtaining professional licensure.
Valid driver’s license.
Must take and pass a physical examination within the first six months and annually thereafter.
Must become and maintain a Special Natural Resources Police Officer commission during employment.
