About the Program and Medical Coordinator Position Our Transitional Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Children (UC‑TFC) overseen by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), ensures the well‑being and safety of unaccompanied children (ages 0‑17) who cross the US Southern border without an adult. Unlike traditional congregate care settings, our approach involves placing unaccompanied children in foster homes while diligently searching for and assessing potential sponsors identified in the US. During their stay with us, we provide medical care, case management, engaging life skills classes, and essential mental health services.
Cayuga Centers seeks a compassionate individual for the Medical Coordinator role in the UC‑TFC program. The Medical Coordinator will assist the medical team to support the medical, safety and well‑being of every child in care and ensure compliance with established regulatory agencies and federal standards requirements. This role will use sound medical and professional judgment to promote best practices and deliver quality care.
How You Will Use Your Skills as a Medical Coordinator
Update and maintain accurate UC portal case files and records with information pertaining to: Nursing care, child’s medical history, consult notes, treatment plans, and observations; document all pertinent information in the UC portal case files/records in accordance with agency policy and licensing standards
Completion of required documentation, including but not limited to: treatment authorization requests (TAR’s), Child Level Events (CLE), assembly of discharge packets
Working knowledge of and updating pertinent spreadsheets
Knowledge and experience of working with the current electronic medical record system (Medent)
Responds in a positive and respectful manner to diversity, among the agency’s service population and staff.
Required Experience of a Medical Coordinator
High school diploma/GED required
Knowledge of the medical office environment, workflow, and terminology
Strong knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
Experience working with at‑risk youth – strongly preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills, human relations, and organizational skills – required
Ability to work effectively in a team context
Ability to work independently and in collaboration with agency healthcare providers and nursing support staff
Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and to exercise greater judgment
Physical Requirements of a Medical Coordinator Word processing: Including responding to emails, composing letters, completing the computerized documentation system etc..
This involves sitting at a computer for several hours
Completing paperwork –Such as copying, scanning, and faxing documents
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Schedule: Non‑Exempt
Must be flexible to meet program needs
Weekend and evening on‑call hours required
Holidays may be required
