FORESTER 3 – WAYNE COUNTY
Responsibilities
Forest management in Wayne County, including fire prevention, preparedness, and suppression.
Deliver fire prevention messages to media, groups, schools, and individuals.
Recruit, train, and check the equipping of forest fire wardens, patrollers, and firefighters.
Supervise and direct forest fire suppression efforts and investigate forest fires.
Conduct spot checks and complaint investigations on logging operations, assist in logger training, and assist in logging sediment control act compliance.
Assist landowners by providing technical advice, preparing stewardship plans, and checking reports of insect and disease.
Provide assistance to other agencies and employees as required.
Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Associate degree in a Forest Technology program recognized by the Society of American Foresters, or a Bachelor’s degree in a forestry program accredited by the Society of American Foresters.
Three years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in forestry.
Current license as a registered professional forester or registered forestry technician, or in the process of obtaining such licensure, and a valid driver’s license.
Must pass a physical examination within the first six months of employment and submit to annual follow‑up examinations. Failure to do so may result in termination or reassignment.
Positions must meet the qualifications for and become a Special Natural Resources Police Officer at the earliest opportunity following employment and maintain this commission throughout the period of employment in the position. This requirement may be waived at the discretion of the State Forester.
