Description of Job Sex Offender Treatment Provider:

Provides intensive sex offender treatment within the CDOC's Sex Offender Treatment & Monitoring Program (SOTMP) including development, implementation and modification of individual treatment plans.

SOTMP complies with the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) standards and guidelines.

Conducts and prepares psycho-sexual evaluation for use by community corrections, Parole Board and treatment providers in the community.

Prepares parole board assessment to assist the parole board in making release decisions and participates in support education meetings on a periodic basis.

Participates in the Standardized training workshop for Correctional system regarding the Dynamics of Sex Offenders.

Provides crisis intervention and consultation to correctional staff concerning high risk behaviors of sex offenders in the institution.

Reviews records and interviews inmates to assess sexual violence level, treatment needs, and treatment amenability.

Develops individual treatment plans and goals.

Regularly reviews and modifies treatment plans to reflect individual progress or lack of progress for inmates in the treatment program.

Provides intensive treatment to sex offenders by conducting group therapy based on Risk Need Receptivity (RNR) and supplemental individual therapy, status reviews, homework assignment reviews and feedback, and evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid, active license from the State of Colorado as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

One (1) year of licensed or license candidacy experience, with current valid licensure from the State of Colorado, to include Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker Candidate (SWC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate, and experience must be with the mental health and/or sex offender population.

Required Competencies

Self-control, a strong sense of ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations;

Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure and observant throughout their shift;

Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high-stakes interaction;

Must possess and maintain a valid license from the State of Colorado as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist;

Knowledge of and ability to conduct crisis assessment and counseling utilizing therapist manuals and protocols and agency/facility security policies;

Ability to effectively interact with offenders;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

Ability to read and comprehend the English language;

Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing;

Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind;

Excellent interpersonal skills;

Preferred Qualifications

Mental health counseling with the inmate population and crisis intervention experience;

Experience conducting suicide risk assessments;

Listing with the SOMB as a treatment provider (Sex Offender Treatment Provider);

Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Conditions of Employment

21 years of age;

Valid driver’s license;

High school diploma or GED;

No felony convictions;

Legal eligibility to work in the United States;

Successfully pass all modules of the Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, including English reading comprehension and relevant competency assessments;

Physical ability to complete Defensive Tactics and related requirements;

Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;

Ability to communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments;

Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature, including working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;

Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and on assignment;

Random drug screening will occur throughout employment.
