Description Postdoctoral researcher's role and responsibilities:
Conduct research: Perform hands‑on research, analyze data, and contribute to the ongoing projects within the initiative.
Author high‑impact publications:
Focus on publishing high‑quality papers in top journals, often as the lead author, to build a strong publication record.
Write grant proposals:
Take on the crucial task of writing and submitting grant applications, which demonstrates independence and leadership potential.
Mentorship and teaching:
Mentor graduate students and technicians, and gain teaching experience to broaden skills.
Develop professional networks:
Connect with new researchers and expand existing professional networks to foster collaboration.
Develop expertise:
Deepen subject matter knowledge, learn new research methods, and enhance skills in study design and data analysis.
Funding and career development:
Funding sources: Funding is often provided through individual fellowships from agencies like the NSF or NIH, or as a budget item within a larger PI's grant.
Building independence:
The primary goal is to develop the skills and experience necessary to transition from a postdoctoral position to a more permanent, independent research role.
Grant writing benefits:
Successfully writing grants not only funds future research but also builds credibility and increases the likelihood of publishing in prestigious journals.
Qualifications PhD in civil engineering, earth science, or related field required. A PhD specializing in transportation infrastructure, and multi-modal transportation operations, with understanding on climate modelling datasets is preferred. Proven experience in grant writing with evidence of awards, publications with specific links to journal publications, research experience, and a commitment to academic excellence in the field.
