Maintenance Technician - Lead Location:

Raleigh, NC

Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm

Salary Range:

$56,000 – $61,355 (Advanced level)

Position Type:

SHRA – 12‑month recurring, full‑time (1.0 FTE)

Essential Job Duties

Assist in maintenance, repair, and operation of heating, cooling, steam/hot water boilers, and auxiliary boiler equipment within a designated service zone.

Perform HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance tasks, applying advanced repair techniques across multiple trades.

Lead a team in adopting new technology and provide instruction to team members.

Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems and associated equipment—including cutting, threading, assembling, and installing pipes; connecting valves, caulking joints, and testing installations.

Analyze defects and malfunctions within plumbing systems and implement appropriate repairs or modifications, eliminating leaks and replacing faulty fittings.

Repair, adjust, and replace temperature controls, regulators, humidity controllers, sensors, pneumatic control valves, and regulators.

Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration and air‑conditioning equipment per manufacturer’s instructions.

Fix and alter pressure‑reducing valves, motorized steam valves, and chilled water valves.

Demonstrate proper lock‑out procedures and identify system deficiencies.

Address sprinklers and safety system issues.

Lift, carry, and maneuver materials weighing 30‑60 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations.

May be required to report for work during adverse weather conditions or emergencies.

Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the necessary competencies.

Multi‑trade experience with a concentration in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or steam systems.

Demonstrated ability to operate, troubleshoot, and repair building automation systems and controls.

Proven skill in diagnosing complex equipment issues and implementing effective, lasting repairs.

Strong communication skills with the ability to interpret instructions, share technical knowledge, and lead by example.

Experience working in a university or large institutional facilities environment.

Required License or Certification

Universal CFC certificate.

North Carolina driver’s license within 60 days of hire (must be maintained).
