Purpose The purpose of this position is to install, maintain and repair recovered water and condensate pumping systems on the university campus as well as testing and repairing water and condensate meters.

Responsibilities

Assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing, steam, pump and metering related utility systems.

Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas; inform personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies.

Work with trades or craft personnel in support of systems within power plant, chilling stations, utility tunnels or other underground utilities.

Perform preventative or corrective maintenance on mechanical, tunnel and plumbing distribution systems.

Maintain records of equipment repair and inventories; complete work orders using automated maintenance program systems.

Attend staff meetings, safety trainings and job‑related trainings; complete required training modules and certifications within 18 months.

Follow University and UEM safety policies; report hazards; wear protective equipment; maintain a UT cell phone; drive UT vehicle and keep acceptable driving record as required by UTS157.

Required Qualifications

Diploma (High School) or GED.

Three years of experience in skilled‑level repair and maintenance of electrical, industrial, mechanical or utility distribution equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated communication skills.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; commercial driving license (CDL) preferred.

Team‑oriented work ability; operation of backhoe, bobcat and other shop equipment.

Five years of experience in skilled water meter repairs and testing.

Five years of experience in skilled pump repairs and maintenance.

Experience troubleshooting basic electrical motor control components.

Driving Requirement This position requires a class "C" operator's driver's license and a current three-year driving record. Non‑Texas residents must obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary Range $60,000

Working Conditions

Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished)

May work in all weather and extreme temperatures; around chemical fumes, standard office conditions, biohazards, chemicals, electrical and mechanical hazards.

Environmental Demands

Standard office conditions.

Mandatory use of personal protection equipment: hearing and eye protection, gloves, appropriate attire, breathing devices when required.

Exposure to heat, chemicals, heated surfaces, asbestos, electrical and explosive hazards, computer emissions, biohazards, extreme temperatures.

Physical Tasks

Use of keyboard and personal computer.

Fine manual dexterity and ability to twist, grasp, push, pull, and bend.

May be required to perform elevated work, work from ladders or scaffolds, lift up to 50 lbs.

Additional Working Conditions

Work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Exposure to loud noise, high dust, allergens.

Operate forklifts, personnel lifts and cranes; other equipment.

Participate in on‑call program.

Work Shift

40 hours a week, Monday–Friday 06:30 AM–03:00 PM.

Work‑life balance with typical 40‑hour week and flexible arrangements.

Requires presence on the UT Austin campus five days per week.
