Job Description and Duties The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Materials Engineering and Testing Services (METS) seeks a Senior Bridge Engineer for a Branch Chief position in Vallejo, within the Office of Quality Assurance and Source Inspection (OQASI). Under the general direction of a Supervising Engineer in Sacramento, the incumbent will be responsible for the operation of the Vallejo, Quality Assurance and Source Inspection Branch (QASI). The primary geographical area of responsibility is Districts 4, 5 and 6, with potential extension to additional state and out‑of‑state locations as directed.
Working Conditions Position located at 690 Walnut Ave, Ste 150, Vallejo, Solano County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. This position is eligible for telework; the amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department. Employees are expected to be available to report to the worksite with minimal notice of urgent needs. Business travel may be required. Commute expenses to the headquarters are the responsibility of the candidate.
Minimum Requirements
Valid Professional Engineer license issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Valid driver’s license when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.
Evidence of education, training, and experience qualifying for the position (from the Class Specification).
Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) – typed, no more than 2 pages, single‑spaced, 12‑point font.
Special Requirements
SWO must include educational transcripts or certification proof; unofficial transcripts or degree equivalency reports may be required.
SOQ must include: technical background, experience in project delivery, materials management or construction; examples of leading diverse teams; cooperative working relationships within Caltrans and industry groups; communication skills.
