Job Overview Division of Engineering Services (DES) – Materials Engineering and Testing Services (METS) seeks a Senior Bridge Engineer for a Branch Chief position in Vallejo, under the Office of Quality Assurance Source Inspection (OQASI).

Responsibilities

Manage and operate the Vallejo QASI Branch, overseeing quality assurance and source inspection activities for Districts 4, 5, and 6, with possible extension statewide or out-of-state as directed.

Coordinate with the Supervising Engineer in Sacramento on strategic plans, project assignments, and performance reporting.

Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.

Maintain cooperative working relationships with Caltrans, industry groups, and other stakeholders to meet customer service needs.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of management and employees.

Working Conditions Location:

690 Walnut Ave, Ste 150, Vallejo, Solano County.

The position may be eligible for telework at the Department’s discretion. Employees must be able to attend the headquarters when required, and business travel may be required.

Minimum Requirements

Valid California Professional Engineer license issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

Valid driver’s license for operations involving state‑owned or leased vehicles.

Completion of a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ), no more than 2 pages, single‑spaced, using 12‑point font.

Eligibility for the state examination list or other legal status allowing entry into state civil service.

Provide technical background and experience related to project delivery, materials management, or construction.

Give examples of leading diverse teams and advancing their capabilities.

Demonstrate cooperative relationships within Caltrans and industry groups.

Describe communication skills at all organizational levels.
