About the Role As a
Senior Accountant , you will be a key member of a 10-person finance team, reporting to the Accounting Manager and supporting the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of our financial reporting. This is not a back-office “heads down” role—this is a visible, high-impact position embedded in the operations of the mill.
This role is ideal for someone who:
Brings strong cost/management accounting experience in a manufacturing setting
Has a high degree of curiosity and a track record of driving process improvements
Is comfortable challenging “how we’ve always done it” in a respectful, data-driven way
Wants a clear path to greater responsibility, including potential succession into the Accounting Manager role
For the right candidate, this position is intended to build
bench strength and succession
in the finance organization, with the goal of being ready to compete for the Accounting Manager role within approximately
12–18 months , based on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Own and support
accurate and timely month-end close , including journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting.
Prepare
monthly balance sheet reconciliations , proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies.
Perform
variance analysis
between actuals, forecasts, and budgets; provide clear, actionable insights to leadership.
Support
budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
activities for the division.
Partner closely with operations to
understand product costing, standard costing, and manufacturing performance , translating plant activity into accurate financial results.
Prepare and file applicable
tax returns
and support related compliance activities.
Maintain and enhance
internal controls
to ensure compliance with GAAP, Client policies, and audit requirements.
Identify, propose, and implement
process improvements
to drive efficiency, accuracy, and better use of systems and data.
Serve as a key contributor to
succession planning
and long-term finance capability building within the Tuscaloosa team.
Demonstrate the ability to
initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, and housekeeping standards
at all times—safety is the most important part of every job.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in
Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of Cost or Management Accounting experience , preferably with exposure to standard costing and manufacturing environments
Strong knowledge of
GAAP
and financial reporting
Proficiency with
ERP/accounting systems
(e.g., Oracle, SAP, or similar enterprise platforms)
Advanced
Microsoft Excel
skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, analysis)
Excellent
analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Demonstrated
high attention to detail
and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Ability to
initiate and drive change , not just maintain existing processes
Demonstrated commitment to
safety
in all aspects of work
Preferred Qualifications
Manufacturing experience
in a plant or industrial environment
Experience in
standard costing, product costing, and cost analysis
CPA
or
MBA
Prior experience leading or mentoring others (formally or informally)
Demonstrated interest in
