About this Role The Personnel Specialist performs all aspects of personnel transactions, payroll, time and attendance reporting, appointments, and separations. The Specialist processes complex and sensitive transactions accurately in compliance with bargaining unit contract, MOU, departmental policies and procedures, and California state laws while meeting management and customer expectations.

Responsibilities

Process payroll, time and attendance reporting, appointments, and separations for employees.

Ensure accurate and timely processing of all transactions in accordance with union contracts, MOU language, and applicable state statutes (CalHR, CalPERS, SPB, SCO).

Provide high‑quality customer service and respond to inquiries from management and staff.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications as outlined in the Personnel Specialist (1303) classification specification.

Experience processing payroll, benefits, and leave accounting/time‑keeping is desired.

Demonstrated excellence in customer service, attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to multi‑task and organize work effectively.

Working Conditions Hybrid work: up to three days per week may be teleworked, with a minimum in‑person requirement of two days per week. Business travel may be required and all commute expenses to the reporting location are the responsibility of the selected candidate.
