Job Summary Math Tutors support a small caseload of middle school students by delivering regular, high-dosage, high-impact math instruction designed to accelerate learning and promote long-term academic success. Tutors provide

daily individualized and small-group math instruction , tightly aligned to Tier I classroom content. With expertise in mathematics and a passion for working with adolescents, tutors build strong relationships that foster confidence, academic growth, and positive engagement in school.

Throughout a typical school day, tutors work in person with students across multiple class periods, collaborating closely with teachers to ensure tutoring is aligned, and responsive to student needs. Tutors also serve as mentors and advocates who create a safe, supportive environment where students feel valued, capable, and motivated to reach their goals.

Key Responsibilities

Provide daily, high-quality math tutoring to an assigned caseload of middle school students across multiple class periods, using evidence-based strategies that support conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.

Find joy in building strong, trusting relationships with students, using positive communication to encourage engagement, persistence, and a growth mindset.

Maintain consistent communication with classroom teachers and participate in planning sessions to align tutoring sessions with Tier I math instruction.

Develop and refine lesson plans using Saga Education and District curriculum and resources, ensuring instruction is rigorous, standards-aligned, and accessible to all learners.

Manage, track, and analyze student data to differentiate math instruction, adjust lesson plans, and provide individualized feedback that supports both academic progress and student confidence.

Develop student incentives, progress trackers, and celebratory systems that promote motivation, attendance, and academic achievement.

Proactively check and respond to emails daily, and regularly collaborate with your site-based supervisor and building administration.

Participate in initial training and ongoing professional development to refine tutoring techniques and strengthen math instructional skills.

Build strong relationships with teachers, school staff, families, and community partners to ensure holistic support for students.

Qualifications

Minimum requirement; 60 college semester credits and/or a two-year degree from an accredited college or university. Please include official transcript(s) with application.

In lieu of college credits or degree, one can complete the Paraeducator Assessments. The passing scores in Minnesota are 65% and 70%.

The test is available to applicants who are presented an official job offer from the Rochester Public School District.

High School diploma or GED required.

Experience working with elementary age students.

Computer skills preferred.

Flexibility and the ability to work as a cooperative team member.

Positive rapport with children including the ability to correct inappropriate student behavior with fairness and consistency.

Regular, on-time attendance is required.
