Mission description
Summary: The commodity manager is responsible for developing and executing the purchasing strategy for the assigned commodity, aligning site and division objectives with overall business goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy Development and Implementation:
Define and deploy the purchasing strategy, implement a roadmap aligned with corporate and division objectives, consolidate and analyze purchasing data, monitor market segmentation and trends, and identify performance improvement drivers.
Supplier Management:
Define the supplier target panel, source for current or future needs in collaboration with the NPI Commodity Manager, assess and mitigate commodity risks.
Contract Negotiation:
Negotiate long‑term and global trade agreements, focus on cost savings, liability and performance accountability, and optimise working capital through logistics solutions, safety stock, VMI and more.
Cost Optimization & Value Creation:
Identify cost‑saving opportunities, implement contract clauses that drive continuous improvement and innovation from suppliers.
Supplier Performance Monitoring:
Consolidate and report on supplier performance and support cross‑purchasing initiatives within SEP or the SAFRAN Group.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Purchasing or related field.
5 years of purchasing negotiations experience in a fast‑paced manufacturing sector such as aerospace, automotive or high‑tech.
Proven experience in sourcing or commodity management.
Ability to work effectively across cultural and geographical borders.
Required Knowledge / Skills
Proactive leadership and strong negotiation skills.
Ability to cultivate and maintain successful supplier relationships.
Ability to recommend and implement strategic improvements in organisational structure, procedures and workflows.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency in ERP systems and procurement tools (Excel).
Experience in contract management and production‑related commodity negotiations.
Strong cross‑functional and international teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 4 years of management or supervisory experience within a matrixed organisation and with international teams.
Extensive knowledge of the aerospace industry and supply‑chain functions.
Strong financial acumen with analytical and controlling capabilities.
Work Environment
Open‑space office (80 % sit, 20 % stand), shop floor occasional, 5‑10 % travel.
