CDOC Laundry Supervisor

at the Sterling Correctional Facility, Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC). This position supports the county’s mission to maintain safe, efficient, and compliant laundry operations for inmates.

Job Location Sterling Correctional Facility (SCF), Sterling, CO.

Responsibilities

Maintain safety and security of the facility and work sites, including training inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment, and chemicals.

Enforce security procedures by conducting searches, monitoring environment, and addressing inappropriate activity.

Physically control inmates when necessary, use restraints or force techniques as required.

Supervise inmate crew, set performance standards, train in laundry operations, ensure compliance with agency policies.

Track and calculate inmate hours and pay, create schedules, assign tasks, inspect work, perform evaluations.

Maintain safe, secure, and compliant laundry operations and equipment maintenance, including daily weight records, consumption records, and product inventory.

Prepare and document clothing movement records and ensure accountability for all clothing and linen.

Follow guidelines for authorized state-issued clothing and laundering, including proper fitting, tagging, and repair.

Oversee housekeeping assignments and monitor safe use and storage of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and tools.

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) years of employment experience operating commercial grade washers and dryers in a commercial, institutional, or industrial setting.

Or two (2) years of experience as described above combined with correctional experience (security related duties, detaining, controlling movement, escorting inmates, conducting counts and searches).

Formal education equivalent to competitive experience may substitute; attach transcripts.

Required Competencies

Strong work ethic, integrity, and dependability.

Sound judgment and decision‑making skills.

Proficiency in commercial/industrial washer and dryer operations.

Ability to maintain inventory, monitor supplies and clothing, and control chemicals.

Ability to monitor equipment use and ensure proper maintenance and prompt repairs.

Clear understanding of safe use of cleaning supplies, chemicals and sanitation processes.

Willingness and ability to communicate with inmates individually and in groups.

Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork inspiration.

Willingness and ability to train, coach and mentor inmate workers for community reentry.

Ability to respond to emergency situations (fights, fires, medical emergencies, escapes).

Ability to work in close proximity to industrial equipment.

English language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking).

Ability to create accessible documents following plain‑language guidelines and accessibility in mind.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supervising staff.

Experience in stain removal processes, textile repairs, alterations and ironing processes.

Experience maintaining inventory and responsibility for unit procurement.

Registered Laundry and Linen Director (RLLD) or Certified Laundry/Linen Manager (CLLM).

Conditions of Employment

Must be 21 years of age.

Possess a valid driver’s license; maintain safe driving record.

High school diploma or GED.

No felony convictions.

Legally eligible to work in the United States (e‑Verify).

Successfully complete six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, including Defensive Tactics and written/practical exams.

Physical ability to complete Defensive Tactics (arms above head, kick, surge).

Ability to see and hear for safety responses.

Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend others.

Demonstrate body agility, strength, and ability to walk and climb stairs consistently.

Work in a variety of shifts, including rotating shift schedule.

TB screening required upon hire.
