Injection Molding Maintenance Manager
The Injection Molding Maintenance Manager will lead the maintenance department for a high-volume facility specializing in large-part, high-tonnage injection molding. You will be responsible for the uptime, reliability, and safety of large‑scale presses (typically 1,000 to 3,000+ tons) and their associated automated systems. This role requires a blend of hands‑on technical leadership and strategic asset management to ensure the plant meets aggressive production targets for consumer goods.
Department: Maintenance / Operations
Base Pay Range $154,000.00/yr - $194,000.00/yr
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
Direct and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, electricians, and tool & die specialists across multiple shifts.
Preventative Maintenance (PM):
Develop and execute a world‑class PM program specifically tailored for large‑tonnage presses, high‑flow hydraulic systems, and complex hot runner manifolds.
Emergency Repair:
Lead the rapid response to equipment breakdowns, utilizing root‑cause analysis (RCA) to minimize downtime on critical production lines.
Automation & Robotics:
Oversee the maintenance of 3‑axis and 6‑axis robots used for part extraction and secondary operations (assembly, labeling, and packaging).
Spare Parts Management:
Optimize the inventory for high‑cost, long‑lead components unique to large‑scale molding (platen bushings, tie bars, large screw/barrel assemblies).
Capital Projects:
Collaborate with Engineering on the installation, commissioning, and leveling of new large‑tonnage presses and central material handling systems.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all machinery meets OSHA standards, focusing on lockout/tag‑out (LOTO) and the structural integrity of heavy overhead cranes and mold‑changing equipment.
Candidate Qualifications Experience
8+ years in industrial maintenance, with at least 3‑5 years in a leadership role within an injection molding environment.
Technical Expertise
Deep knowledge of high‑tonnage presses (e.g., Milacron, Husky, Engel, Cincinnati) and large‑scale hydraulics.
Experience in high‑volume, fast‑paced environments where OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) is critical.
Proficiency with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for work order tracking and asset history.
Strong understanding of auxiliary equipment: chillers, thermolators, dryers, and central resin feeding systems.
Hydraulic/Electrical Proficiency:
Ability to troubleshoot complex proportional valves and PLC‑controlled systems (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
Heavy Rigging Knowledge:
Experience overseeing the safe movement and installation of molds weighing 20+ tons.
Budgetary Management:
Experience managing a departmental MRO budget and justifying capital expenditures (CAPEX).
